Patient Testimonial for Robotic Hysterectomy

Testimonial by Krishnaveni Kurma

Treatment for: Stage 4 Endometriosis
Treated by: Dr. Anitha Kunnaiah
Patient location: Hyderabad

Stage 4 Endometriosis is the most severe form of endometriosis, where the tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus grows outside of it, causing significant scarring, adhesions, and cysts. In severe cases, the condition can lead to a “frozen pelvis,” where the pelvic organs become stuck together due to extensive scar tissue. Symptoms often include chronic pelvic pain, severe menstrual cramps, heavy bleeding, pain during intercourse, and infertility. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of pelvic exams, imaging tests such as ultrasound or MRI, and sometimes laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Treatment options range from pain management and hormonal therapies to surgical interventions, depending on the severity of the disease and the patient’s symptoms and fertility goals.

Robotic Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure often recommended for severe cases of endometriosis, especially when conservative treatments have failed or when the disease significantly affects the patient’s quality of life. This procedure involves the removal of the uterus and is performed using robotic assistance, which allows for greater precision, flexibility, and control than traditional surgical methods. The surgery is conducted through small incisions in the abdomen, using specialized instruments attached to robotic arms controlled by the surgeon from a console. This minimally invasive approach helps reduce blood loss, postoperative pain, and recovery time. Patients typically stay in the hospital for a short period post-surgery and can return to normal activities within a few weeks, following specific postoperative care instructions.

Mrs. Krishnaveni Kurma from Mancherial successfully underwent Robotic Hysterectomy for Stage 4 Endometriosis and Frozen Pelvis at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Anitha Kunnaiah, Sr. Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeon, Dip. in Reproductive Medicine (Germany) & Infertility Specialist.
