An open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is a surgical procedure that repositions broken bone fragments. To hold the broken parts together, a plate with screws, a pin, or a rod that goes through the bone will be attached to the bone. Bandages will be used to cover the incision, which will be closed with staples or stitches. A splint or cast will be used to protect the affected area.
When a broken bone is in many pieces, an ORIF is frequently performed as an emergency procedure. The procedure repairs fractures in the arms and legs, such as the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. Depending on the surgery, the patient may be able to go home the same day or may be required to stay in the hospital for one or more days.
Mrs. Kanakaiah Pillutla from Suryapet underwent an Open Reduction and Internal Fixation surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. N. Nageswara Rao, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and Dr. Mir Zia Ur Rahaman Ali, Consultant Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon.
